Hurricane Irene, Big Wheels and Labor Day!

STARBOARD UPDATE – BIG WHEELS, BAR GOLF, AND SUICIDE SUNDAY!

By now everyone is focusing on Hurricane Irene no matter where you are on the East Coast and vicinity. Here in Dewey, we are expecting the worst, hoping for the best! Calls have been coming in on whether or not we will be open this weekend. At this point we are certainly open through Friday night...then we cannot tell you what the government agencies will instruct us. We are also very concerned for our own employees, so we'll most likely get them out of town as well on Saturday.

Normally we LOVE to host the big Hurricane Party...but this one is more serious than we have seen in our lifetime...so are doing the smart thing and getting prepared!

Looks like Labor Day Weekend could start a little early next week with people coming to check on damage to homes, etc... We will be ready and able to handle the biggest Labor Day ever here at The Starboard! We will keep updates going on Facebook as often as possible from here, and hope our web cams give a nice picture of what we endure. Thanks for understanding as we take precautions to ensure everyone's safety! While exciting, there will be plenty of time for Hurricane Partying all of next week and weekend while we celebrate the final weekend of Summer!

Last weekend was a huge success for those that worked so hard on the Big Wheels fundraiser for Breast Cancer research!

They raised $8000 over the weekend for the Susan Komen Foundation, thanks so all of you that were here for either this event or the GoDewey.com Bar Crawl! The weather was perfect and it seemed everyone had a blast all day and night!

For those of you that wish to help us support the fight against Breast Cancer... we are launching our first ever 5K race this fall on Saturday, October 8th. This race is very close to my own heart as I use The Starboard to help with the fight against Breast Cancer. We are all affected one way or another through Ourselves, Moms, Sisters, Wives, Daughters, or Girlfriends! Personally, I was extremely lucky to enjoy 25 extra years with my own Mom thanks to all the work and technology they have done with fighting the nasty disease, and when she passed away a few months ago, I wanted to continue the work she did to raise money over the years and honor how proud she was of the advances and technology made over her years of fighting it. Hence this October 8th, we inaugurate our first ever 5K race for Breast Cancer Research! We have teamed up with the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and will have plenty more information in the coming weeks... hoping many of you can join us for the race, and following Pig Roast and Parking Lot Party on the 8th of October!
