The official countdown has begun! We have finally flipped the February calendar page to March...so let's get through the end of this rough winter and get the new summer season officially underway! In just TWO weeks, The Starboard will begin our 51st year in business with our Annual World Famous Opening Party. We have approval again to expand our space out into the parking lot under a huge tent to handle the massive crowds that come to Dewey Beach to celebrate The Starboard Opening, so we're working full time on making repairs & upgrades so the place can continue to lead the pack as the greatest bar in Dewey Beach! Storms battered us more so than any other year, but we will have a full time contractor staff making the repairs from all our wind damage, and the place will be sparkling and festive for you beginning Wednesday, March 17th! We generally start our Opening Week with a Thursday opening; however, with St. Patrick's Day falling on a Wednesday, we will stretch it into a bit longer weekend and go from Wednesday through Sunday! Most of you from the cities will make your way to town Thursday and Friday, but for all that live here at the beach, we will see you all here on Wednesday, March 17th with entertainment by LAURALEA & TRIPP FABULOUS to kick off the new year.

The entire town of Dewey Beach will fill up over Thursday and Friday night. Houses, hotels, restaurants, etc., all will enjoy a huge influx of people, as Starboard Opening is traditionally the start of the Dewey Beach season. And after all the snow we have all suffered through over the past 6 weeks, it should be wilder than ever as people are busting at the seams to get out of their homes and have some fun! What better for that than Starboard Opening! If you have yet to book your hotel room, click on the hotel tab of our website and get yourself a room. Most hotels are running some kind of promotion for Starboard Opening, so be sure to mention that is the reason you are coming to town.


Oh yes, how could I forget...that little matter of....
"HOW DO I GET MY VIP CARD!?!" As we have always done, we will have VIP cards for all that attend our Opening Weekend. We will bring in help to disburse the VIP cards over the opener from our friends at Bud Light, as most of our staff is going to be crazy busy keeping you all hydrated! We also have a new VIP status this year, which I will explain next, but for those of you that need to obtain your 2010 Starboard VIP Card, they will be available during these times:

Thursday, March 18th: 8pm-Midnight Friday, March 19th: 5pm-11pm Saturday, March 20th: 12 Noon-9pm Sunday, March 21st: 12 Noon-4pm

Outside in our heated tent, near the main entrance you will find representatives from our friends at Bud Light helping us distribute the 2010 VIP cards and helping us introduce those of you interested to our new Starboard Insider Club! We will not distribute VIP cards anywhere but here at The Starboard this Spring. In past years, we have done VIP promotions in Washington, Baltimore, Arlington, and Wilmington but this year we will keep them here to make sure the real VIPs get our cards! All spring each of our bar staff will be loaded with cards to take good care of their best customers. You will soon be able to email your favorite bartender from our website just to make sure they remember you and your card! And if that doesn't work for you, and you cannot be here for the Opener, you now have another option with our Starboard Insider Club!


Through several social media sites, many of you have already heard and read plenty about a new concept we are bringing to The Starboard. Yes, we are adding a second website called Starboard TV, which is an Insider's behind the scenes look at your favorite Dewey Beach spot. The producers of Starboard TV have spent the last six months building the infrastructure and making sure that we provide a state of the art, High-Definition experience, even consulting with the producers of Howard Stern's show, "Howard TV"! In keeping The Starboard itself up with technology,we now have a full staff ready to keep you in tune with Starboard events & news through Facebook, Twitter, etc.....To avoid any confusion or bad rumors starting, let me answer some questions and explain Starboard TV...

Wednesday, March 17th
We will open for St. Patrick's Day at 4pm on Wednesday...after the locals hit all of their favorite watering holes for corned beef and cabbage, they can wind up their celebration of the great St. Patrick right here with us and LauraLea live on stage at 9:30pm! We will have our full menu available, and our decks heated and ready to serve!

Thursday, March 18th
As we have done for close to 20 years now, we kick this day off with a Happy Hour for our local Chamber of Commerce at 5pm. From 5pm-7pm, we host about 300 members from the local business community as they too enjoy The Starboard opening up, as it signifies the end of winter and beginning of the fun season here at the beach. While most bars are very quiet on this night following St. Patrick's Day, we expect just the opposite at The Starboard with many folks hitting the beach to start their big weekend early. LauraLea & Tripp Fabulous are going to stick around this night as well, and provide us some incredible live music throughout the night. DJ John Hardy will also be with us, as he too needs to shake off some winter rust and get ready as he starts his 28th season at The Starboard!

Friday, March 19th
Open all day for NCAA Basketball in HIGH DEFINITION on all of our TV's! We have re-wired the entire building, added several more huge Plasma TV's and are ready for March Madness like never before. This will be your first shot to renew your taste buds with some delicious Eggs Delmarva or homemade French toast! The bars and restaurant will be serving all day long as more and more of you arrive in town for the big weekend. Both DJ John Hardy and DJ Smoky will be with us to welcome everyone back to their Summertime Home!

Saturday, March 20th
Bloody Marys, Orange and Grapefruit Crushes, Red Bulls, and oh yes...BREAKFAST! It will feel like a summer Saturday morning at The Starboard. We will assemble as much of a summer staff as we can to make it all work on our opener...and have all the decks and dining rooms ready to roll so you can pick out your favorite spot and server! From 3pm-6:30pm Saturday afternoon Doug Segree will be back on the deck for his 12th season with us, while you are all catching the NCAA action either in the bar, on our decks, or outside in the heated tent which will also have TV's everywhere!

Suicide Sunday, March 21st
The best day of the week...most all will start their day off with a drink, our famous breakfast, and at some point Elvis is sure to show up and put on his show. We will start off with the DJ's, bright and early, and keep The Starboard open all day long until last call finally ends another crazy Opening Weekend late this night.
