With just over a month to go in The Starboard’s 2011 season, we still have plenty of big events for those of you that are in town or coming to Dewey to use your "winter house". Hopefully you can be part of a few of these events as this time of year is beautiful at the beach. So jump in the car and get down here!
Coming to Dewey this weekend to enjoy a mostly sunny and warm weekend? We will have LauraLea here on stage ready to rock the house Friday night! Hope to see you here.
Most all of you know Tracey Morgan and Tracy Ahern….both have been here with us at The Starboard for close to 20 years. They are both making this their final season bartending as they pursue their full time careers in education! This coming Saturday evening, we will honor them both together, they have worked the same bar here at The Starboard for so many years together, the only way they would even show up is if we did this together for them both. I have already received responses from close to 100 people that plan to attend, hopefully those of you that have been taken care of so well over the years by these incredible friends can make it down to wish them well!
Don’t worry, they both still have a few weekends left, and will end their time here at The Starboard November 13th working closing Sunday together on their normal bar for all of you to take part in their final Starboard shift. If you can make it this Saturday, it will be all about them! We will have plenty of food for all, drinks, and fun as we roast them a bit and celebrate what a huge part of The Starboard they have both been. These two girls have been a vital part of what has made The Starboard Daytimes such a long standing tradition. Trust me, they will both be missed very much! We hope to see each of them coming back and WORKING for our special events such as Bull Running, etc….in years to come. I will peer pressure them into it!
While we do several fundraisers throughout the year for Breast Cancer here at The Starboard, this 5K (or 1.5k walk) is a first annual, with a great deal of personal significance, as so many of us are affected by this nasty disease in one way or another. In losing my own Mom close to a year ago after her 25 year fight with breast cancer, as well as a good friend from our local gym The Body Shop enduring his mother’s current fight, we have teamed up to host the first annual DEWEY DOES PINK 5K out of The Starboard.
Next Saturday, the 8th of October at 12 noon, the 5K will start and end from The Starboard‘s parking lot. Following will be a ton of food as Bethany Blues will be smokin’ up plenty of food with a pig roast, and post-race pink party. Joe and Marty will play acoustic, and there will be plenty of food and drinks for all that attend, whether you run or not! The weather is looking great at the moment, it’s a long holiday weekend, so hopefully many of you can make it down as we have a full weekend of entertainment packed in. The race will benefit our local Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, keeping all funds right here in the state of Delaware to help those with Breast Cancer.
Thanks for all your help with this, we plan to make this an annual 5K race here in Dewey Beach each October. Hopefully you will be in town to join the effort and have some fun!
